The Elance Work System (Elance's features, tools, processes and services that facilitate online work) puts you in control, keeps you safe and ensures you get the most of your Elance experience!

Job Posts

Job Posts are how Clients describe their project requirements, set a budget range, select a work arrangement, request specific skill sets and start receiving proposals from Freelancers within hours! For instructions on how to post a job, click here.

The Workroom

The Workroom is the hub of the Elance Work System. For each job on Elance a Workroom is automatically created enabling:

  • Proposal evaluation

  • Hiring

  • Collaboration

  • Private, stored communications

  • File sharing

  • Invoice tracking

  • Approval of work

  • Payments

Terms & Milestones

Terms & Milestones are established at the outset of a work engagement to set the pricing (Terms) and define the timing of what is expected by when (Milestones).

Status Reports

Status Reports are weekly updates submitted by Freelancers for Fixed Price jobs, with a record of work completed, progress made and plans for the upcoming work week.

Tracker & Work View

Tracker allows Freelancers to document their work in real time. The information captured with Tracker is used to automatically generate detailed Timesheets for Hourly jobs. Work tracking facilitates accurate and streamlined billing.

While Tracker simply tracks time and automatically updates the Timesheet, Work View allows the Freelancer to stream images and comments into the Work View section of the workroom. The images are taken at random intervals throughout the hour to create a record of the work performed online. Clients can view the work in real-time and provide timely input and guidance.

Timesheets

Timesheets make invoicing and billing for Hourly jobs a snap! Freelancers submit their Timesheets weekly, with notes on tasks completed. By submitting a Timesheet, the system automatically generates a draft invoice that is sent directly to the Client along with the Timesheet. The draft invoice will automatically convert to a formal invoice once the Client approves the Timesheet.

Escrow

Escrow facilitates safe and efficient payment on Fixed Price work while building confidence between both parties. Once a job is awarded, Clients can use Escrow to fund Milestones, signaling to the Freelancer work is to begin. As work is received and approved, Clients release funds to the Freelancer. Freelancers appreciate Escrow as they  know the funds are secure and will be released once work is completed. Clients are protected knowing their funds are securely held in Escrow and will only be released to the freelancer when work is delivered and accepted.

Feedback

Feedback is an important part of working on Elance. Freelancers build a reputation of Client Satisfaction and Clients build a history of consistent hiring and payment. These serve as references for both parties when evaluating whom to work with in the future.
