What are my Financial Accounts?

Financial Accounts are used to manage and receive payments or withdrawals to and from Elance. As a Client or Freelancer, you must have a Financial Account in place in order to hire or to work on Elance.

To add a form of payment or a withdrawal method to your Elance account, go to Manage from the top navigation bar and click Financial Accounts.

Clients and Freelancers in supported countries can add a Visa, Mastercard or American Express to their Financial Accounts page for payments. To add a new credit card to your account, scroll down on your Financial Accounts page and click Enter New Credit Card button.

Once you add your credit card, you can use it to pay fees or for work completed on the site.  As a security measure, you may be asked to authenticate your credit card in order to pay Freelancers on Elance.

Note:  Credit cards are not supported as a form of withdrawal.

If you would like to withdraw any available funds to your bank account, specify your bank information by clicking Enter New Bank Acct from your Financial Accounts pageAfter this information has been added, your bank account will be available as a withdrawal option after 5 calendar days.

Please note that bank accounts are not supported as a form of payment.

Note:  Beginning June 20, 2013, IBANs will be required when sending a wire to Pakistan. IBAN is the acronym for the International Bank Account Number which is an international standard for identifying bank account across national borders with a minimal risk of propagating transcription errors.  As the IBAN contains your specific bank’s routing information plus your bank account number, it will expedite wire transfers and reduce tracers.

Your Paypal can be added to your Financial Accounts page both to make payments and to withdraw funds. To add your existing Paypal to Elance:

  1. Click Enter New Paypal Account.

  2. You will then be redirected to Paypal’s site. Click the Pay with my PayPal account link and sign in with your email and password.

  1. Click Enter New Paypal Account.

  2. Once redirected to Paypal, click the Create a PayPal account link.

If you are a Freelancer based outside of the United States, you have the option to add a Payoneer Prepaid Mastercard to withdraw funds from your Elance account. To add a Payoneer, please go to your Financial Accounts page and follow the instructions below:

  1. Click the Sign Up for New Account link under the Payoneer section.

  2. You will then be redirected to Payoneer’s website, where you have the option to create a new Payoneer account  or link an existing Payoneer account  to Elance.

This is step 5

  2. Enter your Skrill email address and click Submit.

Note:  Withdrawals cannot be made to a newly added Skrill account for 5 calendar days. Once this period elapses, your Skrill account will appear as a withdrawal method in the drop-down menu.

To remove an account from your Financial Accounts page, please log into your account and follow the steps below:

For Freelancers, if you have a Membership tied to a credit card that you have removed, you will need to update your Membership payment method to avoid any disruptions in service.

Note:  An account cannot be deleted while it is selected as a Default or Backup payment method, if there is a pending refund to the account or if it is the only payment method in a Client account.
