What are 'Verified By Visa' and 'MasterCard SecureCode'?

Verified by Visa is a unique service that uses personal passwords or identity information to help protect Visa card numbers against unauthorized use. Once activated your Visa card number cannot be used for online purchases without your personal password. Every time you pay online at participating merchants, you will be automatically prompted to enter your own private password - just like entering a PIN at the ATM. In seconds, you gain added protection while shopping online.

How does Verified By Visa protect me?

When you correctly enter your Verified by Visa password during a purchase at a participating online merchant, you confirm that you are the authorized cardholder and your purchase is then completed. If an incorrect password is entered, the purchase will not be completed. Even if someone knows your credit or debit card number, the purchase cannot be completed without your password at a participating merchant.

How do I get a Verified By Visa password?

If you are using a Visa card on Elance, you will be redirected to your bank's Visa website for the 'Verified by Visa' program to protect its Visa card holders on internet transactions.  This protection program is outside of Elance, maintained by Visa and your bank.

Call your Visa's bank to get your 'Verified by Visa' password.
