How do I manage my Portfolio?

The Portfolio Management System displays your best work in a clean, user-friendly interface, and gives you a robust Set of management tools to organize your work. Click here to watch our Portfolio tutorial video.

Images and items are displayed in a slideshow interface, with each item featuring a title, description, and relevant meta tags. An interactive filmstrip gives you the ability to quickly skim through items within the Portfolio with a single click.

When Clients view your Portfolio, your Freelancer information and a list of Portfolio “Sets” is displayed (this information pane only appears in the public view and does not appear if you are logged in). There's also a “Gallery” view at the top right which showcases thumbnails of all items within your Portfolio.

Tips for showcasing your work:

  • Don’t be shy; show-off! Real-world samples bring your skills to life.

  • Fill your Portfolio with work your ideal client would want to see.

  • Be specific in your descriptions, explaining the goal of the project, your role and the tools you used.

  • Name your samples descriptively, as potential clients can use our search bar to find Portfolio pieces of interest (such as, “ecommerce mobile app”).

How to add items to or edit your Portfolio

To access your Portfolio, login to your Elance account and click Find Work > Freelancer Profile > Portfolio > Edit Portfolio.

To add an item to your Portfolio click on the Upload New button. Once you have uploaded an item you can use the Advanced Options menu to access additional options for that item.

When uploading new images or editing existing ones, the Edit Portfolio Sample page allows you to choose the Title, Caption/Description, and Tags associated with the file as well define which Sets the file is a part of. Additionally, you can specify a link to an existing web page that is associated with the work sample that you’re featuring.

To organize the layout and order of items, simply drag and drop your images into the order of your choice. The middle pane consists of images and items within the Set you've selected, while the right hand rail showcases all of the individual Sets in your Portfolio.

Note: Supported files types: .gif, .jpg, .bmp, .swf, .fla, .doc, .docx, .png, .ppt, .pptx, .pps, .ppsx, .sldx, .pdf, .xls, .xlsx, .xlt, .xltx, .txt, .rtf, .avi, .mpg, .mov, .mp4, .wmv, .au, .wav and .mp3 (.html or .htm files aren't allowed.)

What are Sets?

After an image is uploaded, you can assign it to a Set under Advanced Options.  Sets are an easy way to organize your Portfolio items. A single item can be assigned to multiple Sets. For example, if you want every Set to end with an image of your logo, upload your logo once and then assign it to each Set. Think of it like a music playlist for your MP3s. Every time you create a playlist, you don’t necessarily create a new copy of the song, you simply reference it in a specific list.
