What is my invoice address and tax/VAT information for and how do I complete it?
Elance will automatically generate invoices when you submit Timesheets and Status Reports to your Clients. We will require specific information if your Client is in the European Economic Area. You will not be able to submit proposals without completing your Billing and Payments information. Please check with your local tax and other regulatory authorities for related legal requirements.
To have your address displayed on any invoices you send or receive, please enter your details in the 'Billing and Payments' section of your Settings.
To update your Billing and Payments setting, please log in to your account and follow the steps below:
Click on your Username located on the top right of the page and then click the Settings link.
Click the Billing & Payment link located on the left-hand side.
Click Invoice & Tax.
Enter in your information and click the Update button.
Note: This information will only apply to invoices sent or received after you have updated your setting.
Can a Client pay me before I send an invoice?
Yes. Clients can send payment to you at any time either by releasing funds in Escrow or paying you on a non-escrow job. All payments must be made through the Elance Payment System. Sending your Clients invoices is the best way to document your request for payment.
If a payment is made without an invoice, Elance will automatically generate a receipt document associated with that payment and charge the appropriate service fee. In this case, it is not necessary for you to send another invoice.
What is the Freelancer Reference on Invoices?
This field can be found in most of your Elance Billing and Payment documents. You have the option to use this field to capture helpful reference data such as the document ID of the corresponding invoices in your own billing system outside of Elance. The field will be shown as part of the Elance Billing and Payment document to both parties.
