How do I invoice for an Hourly job?

For Hourly jobs, your Timesheet is submitted automatically on Monday at 7AM ET (Eastern Time) for the prior week.  Your Timesheet also serves as the weekly Status Report for Hourly jobs.

To send a Timesheet to your Client prior to Monday, log in to your account and follow the steps below:

  1. Click My Elance.

  2. Locate and click on the title of your job.

  3. From the menu on the left, click Timesheets.

  4. Click the Create link to the right of the appropriate week.

  5. On the Timesheet page, fill in the necessary fields and then click Submit.

By submitting a Timesheet, the system automatically generates a draft invoice that is sent directly to the Client along with the Timesheet. The draft invoice will automatically convert to a formal invoice once the Client approves the Timesheet. There is no need to send another invoice.  

Note: Once a Timesheet has been submitted for the current week, you will be unable to use the Tracker to log hours until the following week for this job.

Adding hours to a submitted Timesheet

If you Client has not paid your Timesheet yet, you will have the ability to adjust your submitted hours. For Work View jobs, any additional hours added to the Timesheet will not be covered by the Work View Payment Protection.  

  1. Go to Manage in the top navigation bar, click Billing.

  2. Click Send Invoice from the menu on the left.

  3. Select the radio button of the correct job and click Next.  

  4. Click the View Timesheet link to the right of your unpaid Timesheet.

  5. On the Timesheet page, click the Adjust Hours button near the bottom of the page.

  6. Add your additional hours and a comment for your Client and click Submit.

Note: The additional hours will be added to the total billed hours on the Timesheet.  The additional hours will not be added to the log.

 

Submitting a Miscellaneous Invoice

If your Client has already paid your Timesheet invoice and you need to submit additional hours, we recommend that you use the Elance invoicing system to create and send a Miscellaneous Invoice to your Client for the amount due.

To send a Miscellaneous Invoice to your Client for a non-Escrow job, log in to your account and follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Manage tab in the top navigation bar and then select Billing from the drop down list.

  2. Next, click on the Send Invoice link on the second row of the left navigation bar.

  3. Select the job you want to send an invoice for and click the Next button.

  4. Click the Create Misc Invoice link on the top of the Job Billing page.

  5. Fill in necessary fields, including Item Description and Amount.

  6. Review the details for accuracy, and then click the Send Invoice button.

The Client will receive the invoice and can make payment directly to your Elance account using the Elance payment system.
