Client profile identity policies

As the world's most trusted and secure marketplace for online work, Elance requires that all Members establish and maintain a profile true to their real identity. To become a Client and access site services, you must provide true, accurate and complete information as prompted by the registration form and to update this information to maintain its truthfulness, accuracy and completeness. Below are more details regarding our policies for Client profiles.

Who can establish an Elance Client account?

Clients on Elance must be a legal entity or a business individual 18 years or older.  Individual Members must be able to form legally binding contracts.

What identity information must be supplied to set up an account?

The following rules apply to all Clients.  All provided information must be accurate and Elance reserves the right to ask for additional details to verify the account.

  • You must use your own legal name.

  • You must use your own contact information.

  • Clients on Elance may only have a total of one Client account and one freelancer account.

  • You cannot use Elance’s name in the profile name (ex:  Elance_Writer).

What is the thumbnail policy?

You may post a thumbnail image on the Site to accompany your profile. All thumbnails must follow these common guidelines:

  • You must own the image or have a license to use the image.

  • The image must be professional.

  • Uploaded image must be .jpg, .jpeg or .gif format. (Animated .gif files are not allowed.

  • The thumbnail may be left blank.

Can Client accounts be shared?

Elance expects that the Individual or Business identified in the account will be the one who utilizes the account.  Every Client account has the ability to add Team Members in order to allow other's to access and work through the account. Elance accounts cannot be transferred or sold to other users.

 

What content cannot be included in the Client account?

A Member profile cannot contain any of the following:

  • Any contact details (ex: non-Elance website URL, email address) outside of the designated areas

  • Offers to make payments outside of the Elance Billing & Payment System

  • Any text that is copied from another Member’s profile

  • Reference to another Member's name or logo in a way that misleads or falsely implies a relationship with that Member

Can Elance require that I provide additional information to verify my information?

Yes, Elance reserves the right to ask for verification details at any time. If you are unable to provide the appropriate verification information, your account can be subject to penalty up to and including termination.
